Federal Councillor Guy Parmelin pays working visit to Spain

Bern, 11.11.2022 - The working visit to Madrid from 10 to 11 November focused on official meetings with First Vice President of the Government of Spain and Minister for Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, Nadia Calviño, and with Minister for Industry, Trade and Tourism, Reyes Maroto. Federal Councillor Guy Parmelin also attended the 20th anniversary celebration of the Swiss Business Hub Spain.

Federal Councillor Guy Parmelin, Head of the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research (EAER), was received on 11 November by Nadia Calviño, First Vice President of the Government of Spain and Minister for Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation. On the same day, Mr Parmelin also met for official talks with Spain's Minister for Industry, Trade and Tourism, Reyes Maroto. At the meetings, they discussed the two countries' economic policy priorities in light of the economic, ecological, energy, digital and social changes. They also discussed the fostering of bilateral economic relations, Switzerland's European policy and the development of tourism in the current global context. Spain will take over the six-month presidency of the EU Council in the second half-year of 2023.

Mr Parmelin attended the 20th anniversary celebration of the Swiss Business Hub Spain on 10 November in Madrid together with representatives of Swiss companies. Founded in 2002, the Swiss Business Hub is part of the Swiss Embassy in Madrid and represents the official Swiss organisation for promoting export and location, Switzerland Global Enterprise (S-GE). With the help of a local network of experts, the Swiss Business Hub supports small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) from Switzerland and Liechtenstein in developing their business in Spain and Andorra. It also provides Spanish companies with information about Switzerland as a business location.

Spain is Switzerland's sixth largest trading partner with a trade volume of CHF 20.1 billion (eighth including gold trade). Spain ranks 17th among the target countries of Swiss direct investments, while Switzerland, according to Spanish statistics, ranks eighth among foreign investors in Spain.
